Lake Display docs
Setup and troubleshooting notes for the small connected display. These docs match the links shown on the device screen when something needs attention.
Setup
- Plug in the device and wait for the setup screen.
- Join the Wi-Fi network named
Lake Display Setupif the device is in setup mode. - Open
http://192.168.4.1, or after Wi-Fi is saved, openhttp://lakedisplay.local. - Save Wi-Fi first, then save the data source settings.
- Use the sample tool from your normal internet-connected Wi-Fi network to confirm the data source returns a value.
The setup page on the device is local to your network. The public site is https://lakedisplay.com.
Wi-Fi Problems
If the screen says STALE, WiFi lost, WiFi failed, or WiFi reconnecting, the device cannot reach your network.
Try this
- Confirm the router is powered on and the device is within range.
- Open the setup page and re-save the Wi-Fi network name and password.
- Make sure the network supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi if your router separates bands.
- Power-cycle the device after changing router settings.
The display retries Wi-Fi automatically. It should not keep showing an old lake value as if it were live while Wi-Fi is unavailable.
Water Data Problems
If the screen points to /docs#data, the device reached Wi-Fi but could not use the configured data source.
Common causes
- The time series name, office, unit, or API URL has a typo.
- The public data service is temporarily unavailable.
- The data source returned no recent values.
- The returned JSON shape changed or could not be parsed.
Public water data can be delayed, stale, renamed, or missing. A clear stale/error state is safer than a plausible old number.
Firmware Updates
The setup page can check for and install firmware updates. Keep the device powered while an update is being applied.
- If an update fails, leave the device powered and try again from the setup page.
- If Wi-Fi drops during an update, reconnect Wi-Fi first and then retry.
- If the device will not boot or cannot be reached, it may need USB recovery flashing.
Support
This product is still in active prototype development. Keep a note of what the small screen says, the firmware version shown in setup, and the configured data source when reporting problems.
